Call to SMEs from the food sector

Dec 13, 2024

What do we do?

For the Rethink Energy for Food project, we are looking for vegetable or potato processing SMEs interested in a temporary data capture system. We are developing easy-to-install measurement boxes that measure electrical and thermal energy. We can provide a Smappee box that measures the electrical consumption of a specific installation, process, or main board. We also provide a box with a flow clamp-on sensor and PLC to measure the heat flow. The boxes are equipped so that the captured energy data is securely sent to our server. If desired, we can place a box with a visualization screen at the measurement site, where the measurement results are visible on a dashboard.

What do we expect from you?

In consultation with the company, strategic locations within the company will be chosen to implement one or more measurement cases. To place the cases, someone from the company must guide us so that we know where the chosen location(s) are and grant us access to electrical cabinets. We use measuring rings and clamp-on flow sensors, allowing the installation to take place without interruption.

Why is this interesting for your company?

1. Insight into large consumers

By installing measurement boxes, you gain insight into the major consumers on the site. Often, we see that the major consumers are misjudged by companies. With this information, you can invest more strategically in the energy-consuming machines or production processes.

2. Detect inefficiencies and/or errors

With a data capture system, you can detect devices that consume unnecessary amounts of energy, for example when idle. We notice that many machines/processes consume more energy when idle than what is stated by the manufacturers.

3. Accelerated integration of the definitive data capture system and/or EMS

For the installation of the measurement boxes, the electrical/hydraulic diagrams will be reviewed to strategically install the boxes. Thanks to these insights into the diagrams and the consumption of the process(es), the integration of a final data capture system and/or EMS can be implemented more quickly and efficiently.

4. Optimal sizing of energy generation and storage systems

Collecting accurate data on energy consumption at different times and in various processes will provide you with essential information for optimally sizing energy generation and/or energy storage. This prevents over- or under-sizing, allowing you to achieve the maximum return from these investments such as heat pumps, buffers, batteries, solar panels, etc.

5. Improving ESG score

With a data capture system, you can contribute to your sustainability goals. By optimizing your energy consumption, you can achieve a better ESG score and meet the increasingly stringent requirements in the field of environment and regulation.
